MITIGATING OUR IMPACT ON
BIODIVERSITY
Since 1970, 69% of the world's vertebrate population has disappeared.
The current extinction pace is 10 to 100 time faster than any previous mass extinction.
OUR APPROACH ON
BIODIVERSITY
Environmental threats go beyond climate change and include plastic pollution, land use, and exotoxicity, all of which pose significant risks to ecosystems. To address this, we have assessed our impact on biodiversity using Caisse des Dépots Global Biodiversity Score.
This analysis identified climate change and land-use pressure as our most significant impact drivers. Land-use impacts are primarily associated with the procurement of cardboard, while climate change remains a key contributor to biodiversity loss across our value chain.
In FY26, we complemented this work by using the WWF Biodiversity Risk Filter (BRF)3 to assess biodiversity-related risks across our offices and key suppliers. The assessment showed that overall risk levels at our offices remain moderate.
Within our supply chain, the assessment highlighted industrial pollution, extreme weather events and social risks linked to human rights as the most significant areas of concern. By combining biodiversity risk scores with purchasing volumes, we identified five priority suppliers to focus of our engagement efforts.

THE GLOBAL BIODIVERSITY SCORE:
MEASURING OUR IMPACT ON BIODIVERSITY
The Global Biodiversity Score (GBS) quantifies the impact of a company's activities on biodiversity.
A company's Global Biodiversity Score (GBS) is measured in MSA.km². An impact of 1 MSA.km² is equivalent to the destruction of a biodiversity-rich area of 1km² because of human activity.
A company's GBS is calculated across several dimensions:
- Pressures and type of ecosystems: the GBS calculates the biodiversity impacts on terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems, taking into account five types of pressures: climate change, land use and land use change, ecotoxicity, hydrological disturbance and water eutrophication. The company's impact through invasive species is not taken into account, as there is no reliable date on this subject.
- Time > Static Impact : represents the persistent impact on biodiversity caused by past impacts on biodiversity
- Dynamic Impact : impacts occurring during the assessment period, usually over one year.
OUR global biodiversity
SCORE IN FY24
Between FY22 and FY24, we have significantly reduced all our impacts on the erosion of biodiversity. We estimate that about 75% of this reduction is linked to a decrease in the quantity of products sold, following the Group's strategic emphasis on marketing high value-added products.

Our
progress
To act where most impacts occur, we have set commitments for our suppliers:
-
100% of suppliers must sign our updated Code of Conduct, which includes clear commitments around waste, waste, chemicals and non-conversion of natural areas.
-
100% of priority suppliers (high spend, high risk) must plan actions to measure and reduce their biodiversity impact by 2030, with quantified KPIs.
We also support a Label Bas Carbone-certified reforestation project in France designed to promote biodiversity through a diverse and structured mix of tree species. In parallel, we continue to prioritise the use of recycled paper and cardboard in our packaging to reduce pressures associated with land use.
